DJ Mark Pilgrim Loses Battle To Cancer

Renowned radio personality Mark Pilgrim has passed away at the age of 53 after a prolonged struggle with lung cancer.

His death was confirmed by Lloyd Madurai, the managing director of Hot 102.7FM, in a Facebook statement.

“It was with great sadness that I share this news. Our hero and brother, and much-loved radio personality, Mark Pilgrim, lost his battle with cancer this morning at 10:45.

He fought valiantly to the very end. Mark passed peacefully with his fiancé Adrienne at home. They were together for his last breath. The family thank you for being part of his journey. For loving him and for celebrating him and supporting him always.

Sometime in June last year, Mark Pilgrim publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer three months prior.

He shared that the cancerous cells had metastasized to his femur, the base of his spine, and lymph nodes.

Following his diagnosis, Mark Pilgrim started a YouTube channel to chronicle his journey towards recovery.

Pilgrim had been battling cancer for several decades.

In 1988, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which he successfully fought off through surgery and chemotherapy, resulting in a remission, characterized by a reduction or disappearance of cancer symptoms.

According to TimesLIVE, this was prior to his illustrious career as a radio and television personality.

In 2022, the cancer cells resurfaced. After undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy, Pilgrim shared in July and August of that year that the tumors had significantly diminished, with some disappearing entirely, according to News24.

In September, Mark Pilgrim’s health declined significantly when his lungs collapsed. He spent the next few months in the intensive care unit (ICU) as medical professionals worked to address the issue.

He was eventually released from the hospital shortly before Christmas.

In recent weeks, false rumors began to circulate on social media regarding Pilgrim’s death.

Mark Pilgrim is survived by his two daughters, Tayla-Jean (12) and Alyssa (10).
