New details have emerged on the death of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs, who was shot and killed during a botched hijacking incident.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs was shot and killed Wednesday night, 3 April.

The incident took place at a petrol station located in Florida, Johannesburg, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Fleurs, who was driving his red Golf 8 GTI, fell victim to the hijackers while waiting to be served by a petrol attendant.

Two armed men, cruising in a white BMW 1 Series, reportedly confronted Fleurs, demanding his vehicle.

It’s reported that the victim, who was driving a red VW Golf 8 GTI, drove into the petrol station on 14th Avenue, corner Hendrik Potgieter. While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant, he was confronted by two armed men who came driving a white BMW 1 Series,” Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.

As tensions escalated, the situation took a deadly turn, with the attackers firing a fatal shot at Fleurs before fleeing the scene in his car.

The suspects pointed him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body. One suspect drove off with the victim’s car, followed by his accomplice,” 

Following the attack, the critically injured footballer was rushed to the nearest medical care centre. Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Hunt for Justice: SAPS Launches Manhunt for Killers of Kaizer Chiefs Football Star

Meanwhile, the South African Police Service (SAPS) have since launched a manhunt for the killers. Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo revealed that no arrests have been made yet and that they have opened a case for murder and car hijacking.

Police have opened a case of murder and car hijacking for investigation, and no arrests have been made yet. Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station” he said.
