Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was today found guilty of murdering George Floyd when he knelt on the man’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.
The one of a kind conviction stands out against hundred years of unfair police excessive force cases in the history of the North American country.
Derek Chauvin’s guilty verdict is with no doubt a moment of significant change in the American justice system – but a relief for the family that has finally found closure.
iHarare is in possession of George Floyd’s family videos that recorded the reaction his brothers had when Chauvin’s guilty verdict was read in court today.
In one of the videos, George Floyd’s younger brother, Philonise Floyd is ecstatic upon hearing of his brother’s killer’s guilty verdict while in the company of his friends and family lawyers.

“I can sleep in peace now,” said a family member after the verdict was read.
Chauvin became the subject of national and international fury last May when footage emerged of him kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes as Floyd begged him to stop.
His conviction has been seen as a step towards the fight against racism and police use of excessive force. The world at large has joined the Floyd family in celebration.
