Zahara Could Face Jail Time Over Tax Evasion And Contempt Of Court Charges

Mzansi’s songbird Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana risks facing jail time over contempt of court charges.

She pulled a no-show to court on several occasions forcing the magistrate to issue a warrant for arrest against her.

Zahara was set to appear in Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on her behalf and that of her company, Zahara Trading (Pty) Ltd.

She allegedly faces charges of tax evasion and failure to submit her personal and company tax returns to Sars.

Zahara was supposed to appear in court in April but could not be located.

She only got to court on the 7th of June after a warrant of her arrest was issued.

Upon appearing in court, the National Prosecuting Authority says her reasons for not appearing in court were found unreasonable by the magistrate.

She was then issued a fine of R1 500 or three months imprisonment.

Part of her bail terms were to hand over her passport and report to Roodepoort Police station every Tuesdays and Thursdays before her next court hearing which was scheduled for the 25th of June.

She was set to release her long-awaited album this month.

But due to her issues with the law, she may postpone the launch of her album.

This is not the first time Zahara has found herself on a controversial spot or on wrong side of the law.

She has been battling alcoholism for long now.
