Veteran actor Zolisa Xaluva is set to return to the eTV drama series “Smokes & Mirrors” months after being replaced by Hlomla Dandala.

According to sources, the show’s producers have offered Xaluva a deal that meets his demands, marking his comeback not only as an actor but also as a director.

Xaluva, who previously played the lead role of ruthless boss Caesar, will resume his character after being replaced by Homla Dandala last season. Dandala’s performance reportedly did not resonate well with viewers, prompting the producers to reconsider Xaluva’s departure.

The award-winning actor’s exit late last year followed a “money-related dispute” with the production company, a claim Xaluva dismissed. However, sources close to the situation told Zimoja that his departure was more about his dissatisfaction with the show’s behind-the-scenes operations.

“He was tired of unprofessionalism from the crew; hence, he was offered the opportunity to direct. He is now also playing the role of creative director behind the scenes and mentoring young talent on set.”

Xaluva’s return comes with a revised contract. The source mentioned that he was modest about his demands upon rejoining the show. His new role not only brings him back in front of the camera but also gives him significant influence behind it, allowing him to shape the creative direction of the series.

However, executive producer Luzuko Nodada expressed surprise when asked about Xaluva’s return. “We don’t know anything like that,” Nodada said.

Xaluva was unreachable for comment.

The Actor Who Always Gets Fired

This isn’t the first time Xaluva has faced issues with production companies. In 2022, he left “Gomora,” citing similar reasons related to his desire for a creative director role.

In 2014, Xaluva was among the “Generations 16” actors who were fired after failing to reach an agreement with producers over payment and royalties.
