Details of the Incident Unfold: Dramatic Chase and Fatal Confrontation

The incident occurred around 3 PM on Stoffberg Avenue, between Sundra and Persida. Mathe, along with Bongani Msiza and another individual, was driving in a Jaguar SUV at high speed towards Springs. They were being pursued closely by a silver vehicle. Msiza, behind the wheel, attempted to evade the pursuers by driving into a nearby field. Unfortunately, their vehicle got stuck, leading to a tragic turn of events.

Msiza was shot dead behind the steering wheel, while Mathe, seated in the back, also lost his life in the incident. The third occupant, who was in the front seat, attempted to flee but was shot in the leg. He was later hospitalized and is reportedly in serious but stable condition. In addition to these casualties, two female passengers in the Jaguar also sustained injuries.

Possible Reasons Was Simon Mathe Was Shot

According to law enforcement sources, Mathe had been celebrating his recent success in securing a significant mining tender at a local restaurant on the far East Rand. The gold Jaguar SUV, with personalized number plates, in which they were traveling, was unregistered. The vehicle fell prey to an ambush orchestrated by two other cars.

While the motives behind this tragic incident remain unclear, unconfirmed reports suggest that Mathe’s killing might be linked to a revenge plot related to an earlier attempt on the life of another unnamed Delmas businessman. These sources indicate a brewing conflict among local entrepreneurs in the Delmas area, triggered by the booming coal mining industry and the intense competition for tenders.
