South Africa is currently grappling with the cruel way AKA’s life ended.
The Touch My Blood rapper was fatally shot on Friday night in Durban.
As the month of love continues, Mzansi is also mourning the loss of several celebrities, in addition to AKA and Riky Rick, who passed away in February.

DJ Citi Lyts
Renowned for producing hits like “Washa Washa” and “Vurra” featuring fellow Ambitiouz Entertainment label mates, DJ Citi Lyts, born Sandile Mkhize, rose to fame.The 32-year-old spinner and producer, who was the younger brother of hip-hop icon Prokid, passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2022.
Joseph Shabalala
A founding member of the Grammy Award-winning South African music group Ladysmith Black Mambazo choir in the 1950s, Joseph Shabalala helped bring Zulu music to global audiences.
Shabalala passed away at the age of 79 on February 11, 2020, in a health facility in Pretoria.
Kuli Roberts
Nomakula “Kuli” Roberts, who was not a musician unlike other celebrities on this list, was a versatile personality.
She was a journalist covering fashion and beauty news, a television presenter, an author, and an actress. Roberts collapsed on the set of her new show and passed away on February 9, 2021, at the age of 49.
Reeva Steenkamp
Reeva Steenkamp, a model and law graduate who was admired for her beauty and intelligence, met a tragic end on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
Her boyfriend, Olympian Oscar Pistorius, shot her four times through the bathroom door of his home. Pistorius admitted to shooting Steenkamp, claiming that he mistook her for an intruder. He was found guilty of culpable homicide.
Joost van der Westhuizen
Former Springbok captain Joost van der Westhuizen passed away on February 6, 2017, after a battle with Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
The ex-scrumhalf, who was 45 years old at the time of his passing, spent his last few days in a Johannesburg hospital.
