The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that fake practitioner Dr Matthew Lani has no matric certificate.
Dr Matthew Lani was so sleek that he made millions of people on TikTok believe that he was a medical doctor. He would share videos on his account, offering medical advice donning his signature stethoscope.
This week, social media users exposed him to be a bogus doctor. Authorities sprung up to confirm that indeed he is a phony.
The University of Witswatersrand released a statement denying that Matthew Lani studied medicine at their institution. They have no record of him or the person he purports to be, Matthew Sanele Zingelwa.
The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) jumped into the fray and clarified that Dr Matthew is not a registered health practitioner. The Gauteng Department of Health denied that he works under them, and said it is pursuing criminal charges against the fraud for impersonation.
Gauteng Department of Education Says Dr Matthew Lani Has No Matric
The Gauteng Department of Education has released a statement, revealing that the bogus practitioner has no matric certificate.
In a statement posted on its X account, the department said:
“The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) can confirm that there is no existing record of a National Senior Certification (NSC) or matric certificate of Dr Matthew Bongani Lani, who has been masquerading on social media as a medical practitioner.”
The department revealed that Dr Matthew was at Bordeaux Primary School in Randburg in 2007. He was transferred to Gresswold Learners with Special Educational Needs because of his poor educational performance.
The GDE added:
“Matthew re-emerged on our system in 2016 at Fourways Adult Centre, where he wrote three subjects as a part time candidate. However, he only passed one of those subjects.”
