Despite being widely vilified on social media; media personality and comedian, Lasizwe isn’t stopping at anything to raise funds for students in universities across South Africa.

From what started as his own personal R10 000 pledge to one student, the bank balance seems to be swelling each second and so far, the star has raised R317 000 in just 24 hours.

He started the initiative after the Wits student protests that resulted in the death of one.

Students demanded the slashing of their ‘unreasonable’ fees by the uni.

Lasizwe then partnerd with fellow celebrities; Sibu Mabena, Ayanda “King Aya” Mhlongo and dancer Takkies Dinwiddy to crowd-fund for students through an Instagram campaign dupped #R10GoesALongWay.

“I wanted to donate R10 000 from my savings to help students. I posted this on Twitter and Instagram and got suggestions from people,” he told Daily Sun.

“I added Sibu to the Instagram live stream and we had students coming through and telling us what was happening at universities. We added another R10 000.

King Aya also jumped in and suggested we open an account where people can donate the extra R10 000.”

Their target is to now raise a million rands by Wednesday.

As of today, celebs like Sarah Langa, Jessica Nkosi, Olwethu Leshabane, DJ pH, Kat Ncala, and companies like KFC and Clyrofor have also pledged money for the campaign.

Lasizwe has revealed he’s looking for an organisation that deals with crowd funding so that they help manage and distribute funds for students.

“We also need to be transparent in our dealings,” he said.
