Lloyiso Accused Of Being Homophobic After Dissing Sam Smith Comparison
Idols SA alum LLoyiso started the week on a high as he received a co-sign from internationally recognized R&B superstar Chris Brown. However, the same post that garnered applause for him has now resulted in him trending for all the wrong reasons.
Back in 2019, Sam Smith, the internationally recognized English singer-songwriter, made their debut South African performance. During their tour in the country, they had opening acts including Bonj, Mafikizolo, and Lady Zamar.

Lloyiso, an artist who wanted the opportunity to open for Sam Smith, pitched himself for the opportunity at the time by singing his own rendition of Smith’s hit single “Pray.” Although Lloyiso did not get the opportunity, the comparison to Sam Smith remained in the minds of the general public due to his growing presence on YouTube and musically.

Following Lloyiso’s reaction to Chris Brown’s co-sign, a follower commented on the post, suggesting that Lloyiso was like the South African version of Sam Smith. While the comment seemed innocent to most, Lloyiso surprised everyone with his reply, warning the follower that he would block them.
His response quickly gained traction, as many Twitter users failed to see the problem with the comment unless Lloyiso believed that he was being outed. Lloyiso tried to explain that it was the “like” part of the comment he disagreed with, emphasizing that he was now inspired by Sam Smith’s career trajectory. However, his 2019 post contradicted his recent statement, leading to assumptions that Lloyiso was offended by Sam Smith’s change in overall image and wanted to distance himself from any association with the LGBTIQ+ community.
