The uMngeni Municipality’s DA Chief Whip Nhlalayenza Ndlovu allegedly received death threats before he was murdered. The community is in shock following the tragic murder of Nhlalayenza Ndlovu. The incident, believed to be an organized crime with political connections, has left the community in mourning.
Details of the Incident
Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, aged 46, was fatally shot at his residence in Emasosheni along the R617 near Mpophomeni township on Tuesday around 7.30 pm. The assailants, yet to be identified, entered his home and shot him multiple times, including in the head. Midlands EMS paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
Ndlovu’s wife, Pretty Ndlovu, and their two children, aged five years and six months, were present during the attack. The motives behind the murder are under investigation, and uMngeni Mayor Chris Pappas revealed that they suspect it to be a premeditated crime with potential political involvement.

Official Response and reward
Mayor Pappas, in a media briefing, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He mentioned that the DA Chief whip Ndlovu had shared concerns about a perceived death threat with him the previous week. This information has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
To encourage the community’s cooperation in solving the case, uMngeni Municipality has announced a R100,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. The mayor urged individuals with relevant information to approach the mayor’s office, the municipal manager’s office, or the office of public safety.

Investigation and Immediate Response
Local law enforcement, including personal protection officers from the mayor’s office, Midlands EMS, Mpophomeni SAPS, and uMngeni law enforcement, responded swiftly to the incident. The scene was described as horrific, with Ndlovu found face down, bearing multiple gunshot wounds, indicating a close-range attack. Authorities discovered bullet holes in his door and nearby carriages.
Mayor Pappas mentioned that Mpophomeni SAPS is actively investigating the murder. The national task team on political killings has also joined the efforts to uncover the truth behind this heinous act.
