South Africans Split Over Grammy Award Win Of Zakes Bantwini And Nomcebo Zikode
The Grammy award win of Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode, and Wouter Kellerman for their song “Bayethe” has come under scrutiny.
This follows after the song was recognized in the Best Global Music Performance category and went on to win the award.
Social media users have questioned whether the song “Bayethe” deserved the recognition.
Many South Africans were reportedly unfamiliar with the song prior to the win and only became aware of it after it received the Grammy award.
After listening to the song, some social meadia users have expressed the opinion that it is not of a high quality and therefore did not deserve to win a Grammy award.
This sentiment has also been echoed by some Nigerians, who believe that Burna Boy’s song “Last, Last” was more deserving of the Grammy and that he was wrongly overlooked.
As a result, there have been discussions and debates about the quality of “Bayethe” and the fairness of its win.
Tweeps are questioning how and why that song was picked in the first place out of the great songs from South Africa.
