Zoleka Mandela, granddaughter of Nelson and Winnie Mandela, has died after a courageous battle against metastatic cancer.

She passed away on Monday evening after a long battle with cancer. She was 43 years old.

Her family has confirmed her passing on her Instagram account saying;

“She was admitted to hospital on September 18 for ongoing treatment for metastatic cancer in the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.

Recent scans revealed significant disease progression including fibrosis in the lungs as well as several emboli. Zoleka passed away on the evening of Monday surrounded by friends and family. Our sincerest gratitude to the medical team that took care of her,” read the statement.

In 2022, Zoleka bravely disclosed her diagnosis of cancer in her liver and lungs. She embarked on a tumultuous journey, chronicling her experiences in her autobiography, “When Hope Whispers.

As time went on, Zoleka’s battle took a devastating turn. In early August, she shared that the cancer had spread to her bones, a condition known as bone metastasis. This revelation shook her to the core, and she expressed her anguish and fears openly.

What do I tell my children? How do I tell them that this time around I may not get to live my life as a survivor? How do I tell them everything will be OK when it’s not? I’m dying … I don’t want to die,” Zoleka candidly shared on her Instagram, reflecting the deep emotional toll her battle had taken.
