Trevor Noah and Lethu Bhengu Win International Awards
South African internet sensation and child prodigy, Lethukuthula “Lethu” Bhengu won the Favourite African Kidfluencer Award at the 2023 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
She received her prize at a viewing party in Johannesburg, attended by South African celebrities and well-known influencers. Lethu watched the ceremony, which featured impressive stunts and illusions, before receiving her award with the other guests.
Meanwhile, comedian, writer, producer, actor, and television host Trevor Noah received the African Star Award at the same event. The ceremony was hosted by Nate Burleson and Charli D’Amelio and included a performance by Bebe Rexha, special recognition for Adam Sandler and Transformers’ Optimus Prime, teaser clips from upcoming movies, appearances by popular stars, and surprises revealing fans’ favourite TV shows, movies, and music. The Africa Special was hosted by Lerai Rakoditsoe.
Who is Lethu Bhengu who won with Trevor Noah?
Lethukuthula “Lethu” Bengu is a 3-year-old kidfluencer from Soweto who became famous after videos of her mother, Ntombikayise Bhengu, teaching her to read went viral.
Her mother manages her TikTok account, which has over 32 million views and 900,000 followers. Lethu’s Instagram account has over 26,000 followers.
She started learning to read when she was 25 months old, and since then, she has become a popular influencer for literacy in South Africa.
